site design of an industrial plant
It was requested that the site should accommodate as
many parking lots as possible and at the same time give a certain
order, variety and seasonal interest in planting design.
Entrance is the key feature of this site design. A
couple of simple concrete walls make a modest gateway. The entrance
is a big rotary surrounded by Metasequoia, colorful in autum to
contrast the white of the building. At the center of the rotary
is an oval. The oval with its simplicity and clarity mirrors the
type of product, associated with elegance and geometry, produced
at this industrial plant.
The central corridor serves as a parking area with
double rows of evergreen trees (Quercus myrsinaefolia). The back
entrance is lined with cherry trees, a cheerful invitation in the
spring time. The edge of the property, planted with local species,
intends to become a band of woods that blend into the surrounding
green mountains.
Simple planting design is used to match the simplicity
of the building: Rhododendron spp., Quercus myrsinaefolia, Metasequoia
glyptostroboides, Abelia x grandiflora, Prunus yedoensis, and Sasa.
